China (1884) from "The Earth and Its Inhabitants"
Pictures of China from the 1884 D. Appleton book The Earth and Its Inhabitants, by Élisée Reclus. Originally written in French, and considered the masterwork of a great geographer, this series ran to nineteen volumes and contained hundreds of engravings and maps. Copies of the books and individual plates are available on eBay, and many volumes are available for full viewing on Google Books. The images shown here came from eBay sales listings by ddrahn.
